Ukrainian Parliament passes new law tightening conditions for military mobilization

The Ukrainian Parliament has approved a new law lowering the age of mobilization and increasing military registration requirements. The law aims to increase military discipline and control desertions.

The Ukrainian Parliament has passed a new law tightening military regulations in the country and strengthening mobilization requirements. Passed with 283 votes out of 351 deputies, the law centers on military registration and mobilization processes. The new regulations will increase control over those who evade mobilization and provide a major boost to the military leadership.

Military Registration and Mobilization Regulations

The bill, which was submitted to parliament in January and passed as voted after several amendments, introduces new military registration requirements for men between the ages of 18 and 60. Men in this age bracket will now be required to carry their military registration certificate at all times and show it upon request by a military registration and enlistment office representative or police officer. Likewise, it will be mandatory to present these documents at border crossing points or border areas upon the request of a border official.

Impact on Foreign Travel and Passport Procedures

Another important provision of the law is that Ukrainians who are abroad and do not have a military registration certificate will not be issued new passports. This will directly affect the travel abroad of those who are obliged to perform military service and will provide a serious motivation for them to update their military records.

Updating Military Registration Information

According to the new law, persons liable for military service will be given 60 days to update their military registration data and residential address. Those who do not update this information will not be able to use consular services in Ukraine’s foreign diplomatic corps.

This regulation aims to ensure that personal information is kept up to date and that military obligations are fulfilled correctly.

Mobilization Age and Other Improvements

The law, approved by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, lowers the age of mobilization from 27 to 25, allowing young people to enlist in the military at an earlier age. Zelensky stated that this law will contribute greatly to the goal of increasing military discipline and reducing mobilization evasion.

Conclusion

The new law adopted by the Ukrainian Parliament aims to strengthen military discipline and order in the country. Increased military registration requirements, enhanced border security and restrictions on foreign travel are aimed at minimizing smuggling and maximizing national security. The law is seen as an important step towards countering the security threats Ukraine faces and consolidating social order.
